開車時發現發動機故障燈亮起，發動機怠速不穩、動力不足，油耗升高，排氣有突突聲，排氣管冒黑煙并伴有嗆鼻的味道時，可以用故障診斷儀檢測一下電壓。將電壓表并聯在氧傳感器輸出端，正常情況下是在0.1-1伏之間不斷變化，如果在0.4-0.5之間不動，說明氧傳感器損壞。一般來說，車輛每用3萬公里就要對氧傳感器進行一次檢修，如果傳感器出現老化要立即清洗或者更換新的傳感器，否則會影響發動機性能和三元催化裝置的正常工作。

汽車水溫傳感器如果出現故障，冷車啟動的時候就會有些困難，甚至沒辦法啟動，嚴重的還會導致發動機溫度過高，甚至開鍋、加速無力、排氣冒黑煙等現象。不過現在的汽車一般都具有完善的保護機制，當發動機ECM（發動機控制模塊）檢測到水溫傳感器故障時，會自動進入故障保護模式，然后按照預設參數啟動風扇，同時點亮故障燈。

此時汽車還能正常開動，但一定要盡快去汽修店更換，不能依賴應急系統長時間使用汽車。否則水溫過高會導致發動機拉缸，造成發動機大修。
